ViewPoint Bank offers you several ways to handle the occasional overdraft on your account. An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but your bank pays it anyway.
ViewPoint Bank can cover your overdrafts through standard overdraft practices that come with your checking account. We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:
- Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
- Automatic bill payments
- ACH transactions
You can also link your checking account to your savings or line of credit to use for overdraft purposes. This service is called Overdraft Protection and is a convenient and often a less expensive way to handle overdrafts to your account.
In addition, ViewPoint Bank offers Overdraft Privilege. If there is not enough money available in your checking or designated overdraft protection account to cover a purchase, your participation in Overdraft Privilege allows ViewPoint to consider authorizing and paying the transaction at our discretion.
Due to new regulatory requirements, any checking customer who did not give us consent to pay overdrafts on their ATM transactions or everyday Visa Check Card purchases was removed from the program as of August 13, 2010. Of course, you can consent to Overdraft Privilege at any time.
Many of our customers find this service to be a beneficial safety net in the event there are not enough funds in their account at the time of their transaction. Everyday transactions include using your Visa Check Card at restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations and other merchants, as well as one-time purchases made online or by phone.
How much does Overdraft Privilege cost?
There is no charge for signing up for this service. If we pay a transaction that overdraws your account, our standard overdraft fee of $35 will be assessed. Overdrafts may be created by check, in-person withdrawal, debit card transaction, or other electronic means. When an overdraft occurs, you are responsible for promptly bringing your account to a positive balance.
